Alessandro Ortu is the Head of Project Development, leading the Project Development Team for Phanes Group. He is responsible for overlooking the planning and implementation of the company's PV solar portfolio.

He brings a proven track record of managing PV solar projects in Europe, North and South America and in the MENA region from his experience as Project Manager – Renewable Energy Consultant at Mott MacDonald, a global engineering, management and consultancy company.

Alessandro has an advanced capability to execute due diligence studies, PV plant modelling, electrical design and plant performance assessment. He has conducted the review and discussion of international EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction), O&M (Operation and Maintenance) and PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) for an extensive number of renewable projects worldwide (about 1 GW).

Expertise also includes construction and operation monitoring of wind and biomass plants. Furthermore, he also gained significant business and technical experience in the renewable energy market as Technical Director in Energy Corp, and as Project Manager in Solergy srl and SHAP spa.

He holds a Master’s of Electronic Engineering from Tor Vergata University (Rome, Italy), he has been Research Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, USA); he is a Chartered Engineer of the Italian Order.

Weldon Turner was formerly the Director of International Equity Sales/Trading at Credit Suisse in New York, and has been a senior product manager at RCS Solar, a leading supplier of solar power plants in Europe and Africa. From 1994 to 1999, and from 1985 to 1992 he was a V.P. of Equity Sales/Trading at Salomon Brothers in New York. Turner has been on the Board of Advisors of Thorium Power Company and Portofino Equity Advisors. He has extensive experience in growing new companies; he managed GoldNames from 1999-2000, a domain name internet company, from inception to an organization with over 50 employees. He holds a BA in History and Political Science from Union College, NY, received his JD law degree from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, and his LLM from Thomas Jefferson Law School.

Marina Pannekeet is Manager Energy at FMO responsible for a team of professionals dedicated to investment in the energy sector in Africa, with a focus on countries in the East and Southern African region.

Marina obtained a university degree in Business Economics at the Tilburg University in the Netherlands. Before joining FMO, she worked in the maritime industry for almost 15 years where she fulfilled positions as (transport) economic, financial advisor and project manager.
Since joining FMO in 2005, Marina has been involved in various energy projects amongst others in Sierra Leone, Mozambique, Zambia and South Africa. In addition, she worked on various off grid related transactions with the latest being SIMA and SunFunder, two debt funds active in the off grid sector in the east African region.

Her professional interests focus on structuring debt and mezzanine transactions and managing a team of specialists. As such, she is involved in strategic projects related to providing access to energy and avoiding greenhouse gasses, in line with FMO’s mandate as a development bank.

Brian O’Hanlon is the Managing Director of Business Development for the Overseas Private Investment Corporation’s (OPIC) Global Energy Group. In this role, he divides his time between leading the group’s early origination and customer relationship management and serving on due diligence teams for power finance transactions in developing countries.

Brian joined OPIC as a Director in its Political & Sovereign Risk Insurance unit, where he served as lead underwriter for energy, agriculture, and water-related projects located in the Middle East, Africa, and South America.

Prior to this position, Brian was the senior renewable energy analyst at the U.S. Department of Commerce. He won the Gold Medal, the Department’s highest award, for work leading to a China’s removal of barriers to U.S. wind turbine exports. Brian also led negotiations among eight U.S. government agencies resulting in the adoption of the U.S. government’s Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Export Initiative as well as the creation of the Secretary of Commerce’s private sector clean energy advisory committee.

Karim Asali began his career in the renewable energy sector in 1987 focusing on CSP plants in the United States. He later joined ABB where he spent ten years in oil and gas and power plants design. Since 2000, Karim shifted his focus to develop PV business at companies such as Kyocera, Sharp and First Solar.

He holds an MSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Karlsruhe in Germany and an MBA from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh.

For over 16 years, Ms Leaf-Camp has been involved in “powering” the development of Africa through enhanced access to affordable capital and access to safe and reliable electricity. One of the forerunners in the IPP business in Africa, Desnei has worked for both IPPs and financial institutions raising over USD1.4 billion in financing for renewable energy projects in Sub-Saharan Africa, plus an additional USD170 million for non-energy related projects.

Ms. Leaf-Camp, who is currently engaged with ENGIE in southern Africa, has also worked for the AES Corporation in the United States and Cennergi, a South African IPP. One of her most exciting projects was the initial development of the Bujugali Hydropower Project, Uganda’s first IPP and Africa’s largest privately developed and funded hydropower project.

Between her employment with AES and ENGIE, Desnei was a Development Banker, leveraging her sector and regional experience to deepen access to limited recourse financing for infrastructure projects. She kicked off this phase of her career in 2003 with the Development Bank of Southern Africa before joining the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in 2006.

Desnei holds a MBA in International Trade & Finance and a Masters of Arts Degree in International Development from the American University in Washington, DC.

Snehar Shah brings over 20 years of expertise in investment, finance, and business development to Azuri Technologies, with a particular focus on African markets. Snehar has been the General Manager for Azuri East Africa since 2016 and was previously the Regional Chief Financial Officer of mobile towers business, Eaton Towers. Snehar has a strong history in the telecoms and consumer services markets, including with mobile operator Orange where he was head of the company’s mobile money business unit. Snehar holds a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (BEng) from Imperial College, London and is a qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA) and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).

Prior to joining GOGLA, Johanna had been working for the GIZ where she was actively involved in the provision of advisory services to the German Federal Ministry for Economic Development and Cooperation regarding ICT4D. She holds Bachelor degrees in Development Studies and Political Science, as well as a Master degree in Political Science from the University of Vienna.
