"We are the Global Off-Grid Lighting Association; an independent, not-for-profit association. We represent our members as the voice of the industry and promote the solutions they offer."
Around 1.2 billion people live without access to electricity; about 1 in 6 people on earth.
Off-grid lighting addresses this problem by offering affordable lighting products that transform lives in developing and emerging countries, improving health and education, saving money and creating jobs and income opportunities.
What we do
GOGLA was created to accelerate access to energy. Based on the triple bottom line, our goal is to help scale the off-grid lighting sector and develop the market. By doing so, we’re contributing to the objectives of Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
We are helping to catalyze the market by…
- Positioning the off-grid lighting sector outside of the philanthropic arena and highlighting its importance as a fully recognized industry in an important and growing market.
- Working to reduce barriers to doing business, and increasing opportunities for small and medium enterprises, including our 70 plus members.
- Working with governing bodies to develop regulations and legislation that promote an enabling environment on a national, regional and global level.
- Providing a platform for industry communications and information sharing to enable equal opportunities.
GOGLA was formed in 2012 as public-private initiative borne out of a joint World Bank/ IFC Lighting Africa effort to accelerate market development for energy access. Our unique position as an advocate for off-grid lighting outside of the charitable sector enables us to complement the work of partners and to continue where the World Bank / IFC Lighting Global program stops.
